From the ancient Silk Road to the Belt and Road, Jingdezhen, as one of the birthplaces of ceramics, has spread Chinese civilization to various parts of the world through a long journey, influencing countries and regions along the road such as Southeast Asia, Europe, North Africa, and the Americas, and writing a profound history of ceramic exchange between China and Foreign Countries.
Following the successful holding of the first The Spirit of Ceramics: 2021 Jingdezhen International Ceramic Art Biennale, two years later, The Journey of Ceramics: 2023 Jingdezhen International Ceramic Art Biennale will open on December 15th.
The journalist walked into the Jingdezhen Ceramic University Art Museum and saw that the staff inside the venue were working in an orderly manner such as building, designing, measuring the platforms, booths, showcase tables, etc.. The main structure of the booths in each exhibition area has been basically formed, and the layout of some booths has been completed. The exhibition arrangement has been underway meticulously and orderly.
Zhao Lantao, Executive Curator of the Biennale and Vice Dean of the School of Fine Arts of Jingdezhen Ceramic University: This Biennale received a total of 1803 ceramic works from 53 countries worldwide, including five categories: vessels, sculptures, paintings, installations, and images. After a fair and impartial first round of selection by 17 expert judges from around the world, a total of 260 works were selected, including 47 works by foreign artists from 28 countries around the world. On December 13th, the organizing committee of the biennial exhibition will specially invite 20 evaluation experts from 10 countries around the world to conduct the second round of on-site evaluation. Ultimately, 46 works will be awarded, with a total prize money of 2 million yuan. Among them, the first prize “Jinglan Award” has a prize money of up to 300,000 yuan, which will become the highest prize in the world’s ceramic art competition category.
At the same time, various sub-activities of the Biennale are also being prepared in an orderly manner.

Zhang Jingjing, Head of the Comprehensive Group of the Biennale and Dean of the International School of Jingdezhen Ceramic University: Currently, it has reached the final sprint stage of the Biennale. The Comprehensive Group is coordinating the design group, communication group, translation group, publicity group, logistics group, and security group, and is further improving the detailed work plan in order to complete the preparation work with high quality. More than 30 foreign guests will attend the opening ceremony of this biennial, and reception, translation, and conference affairs are all carefully arranged. In addition, our promotional video for the opening ceremony has been completed. The main visual as well as the visual design plans and brochures for sub-activities have also been basically finalized.
